About FFSW

The Fogolâr Furlan Southwest was chartered in April 2014 by the Ente Friuli nel Mondo, based in Udine, Italy. Since, we have grown from a handful of people to an extended family of Friulians abroad spanning five states in the American Southwest: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas.

The Fogolâr Furlan Southwest operates under the auspices of the Ente Friuli nel Mondo; We work to cultivate awareness of the life, work, and accomplishments of Italians who are from the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia as well as find links between our home region and the Southwest. We also promote social, cultural, and economic connections that may be of interest to members and the community at large.

Due to the size of our territory, we are primarily a virtual Fogolâr, but we do take every opportunity to gather, locally and regionally, including an annual event for all of our members.

There are links both past and present between the American Southwest and the region of Friuli: from Cora Slocomb di Brazza', born in New Orleans, who championed women on both sides of the ocean over a century ago; to the terrazzo floors of the Texas State Capitol created by Friulian artisans in the 1930s; to the professionals, academics, and researchers from Friuli who make advances in their respective fields each day throughout the Southwest.

We are working to create a growing network of people who share the common bond of Friuli Venezia Giulia: recent immigrants to the United States, descendants of those who left Friuli a few generations ago, as well as those who just love our region.  The heart of our Fogolâr, just like every other, lies with each individual Friulian, and their descendants, who represent the heritage, culture, and values of Friuli abroad.
